Among the stunning models was last year’s winner and current World Supermodel Australia title holder Jyselle Des Forges. Jyselle was somewhat thrust into the modeling world, having never signed with an agency or had any real interest in the industry “I work full time in IT, it was never something I’d planned on,” she tells me.
Her journey began when a friend asked if she would walk in a small runway show at the L’Oréal Fashion Week last year. “I was hesitant, but she convinced me.” Des Forges says, “I was watching YouTube videos trying to learn how to walk, I had no idea!” Statuesque and with striking features, it’s no wonder Jyselle eventually found herself on a catwalk. After getting a taste for the industry, the model’s career then seemed to go from strength to strength.
When asked why she decided to enter into the competition in 2013, she replied, “I’m a yes person!” And how lucky that she is – ending up taking out the title of World Supermodel Australia 2014 and coming runner up in the international final.
The World Supermodel Australia competition aims to break typecasts of the beauty pageant world. It is predominantly a modeling event, showcasing up and coming young fashion models from around the nation in order to select and ambassador to represent the country in an international final. The competition encapsulates the good parts of pageantry and combines them with a more high fashion approach – a winner who can be both commercial and editorial, with elegance, confidence and style.
Jyselle De Forges is all of the above, stating that the whole World Supermodel experience has been nothing but positive “I never put pressure on anything, so everything that happens is just constantly a bonus” she explains.
The Australian winner of World Supermodel will receive an array of prizes including: sponsorships, brand ambassador roles, PR services, and Domestic and International Modeling and Presenting Opportunities in excess of $10,000.00, including a photo shoot with one of the Australia’s top pgotographers Graham Shearer.
This year, the final will be held in Sydney in October at Hugo’s Lounge in Potts Point, with the Winner then being flown to Fiji for this year’s International Final in November 2014.
